OUTBREAK OF CMS AS ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNOR MAKES HIS COMMENT



Image result for news on meningitisThis disease which is said to be caused by over crowding and poor ventilation especially during the dry season is now an attacker in the Nigerian society. Meningitis is said to have been usually found in pigs.
Many states especially that of the northern state which at least five people have died in Abuja FCT has been affected by the disease as they struggle to find vaccines to prevent it.The World Health Organization(WHO) has been asked to provide vaccines.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Center For Disease,Dr Chikezie Ihekweazu,the disease outbreak started in Zamfara state before it spread to other states.

“As at April 3, 2017, a total of 2,997 suspected cases of CSM have been reported in 16 States in Nigeria, of which 146 have been laboratory-confirmed. Unfortunately, 336 deaths have also been recorded,” Lawal Bakare, a spokesperson of the NCDC said in a statement on Tuesday.
Dr Chikezie stated that their were a lot of things individuals can do for the meantime to protect themselves from the disease.He explained that the disease affects the spinal cord and the brain and it is transmitted through coughing,sneezing,and staying in poorly ventilated areas.
